BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped both ends of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Geneva. Geneva pulled out a 2-1 win in eight innings in the opener, then secured a 12-1 win in the second game at Conrady Field.
Grove City (20-11, 11-5) took a 1-0 lead in the opener when sophomore DP
Emma Covert (Chicora, Pa./Moniteau) singled in senior second baseman
Maci Linhart (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana).
Linhart went 2 for 4 while junior center
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) and sophomore pitcher
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) both doubled.
Meadors allowed one run in six innings. She struck out six and yielded three hits. Junior
Kyla Campbell (Altoona, Pa./Glendale) took the relief defeat as she allowed a run in one inning.
Freshman third baseman
Sydney Shay (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) doubled and singled in Game Two for Grove City, which trailed 8-0 after one inning.
Campbell started in the circle and took the setback. Sophomore
Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) pitched two innings of relief, as did Meadors. Meadors yielded one run while striking out two.
Grove City will visit Franciscan at 3:30 next Tuesday afternoon in a conference doubleheader.
