GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team earned its fifth straight victory Monday afternoon by pulling out a 5-4 win over visiting Hiram in non-conference action at Jack Behringer Field.
Sophomore pitcher
Michael Earman (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) earned his first win of the season by throwing a career-high 6 2/3 innings. Earman (1-1) highlighted his first start of the season by striking out five while allowing two runs and four hits.
Junior first baseman
Colin Marinpetro (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) went 2 for 4 while sophomore catcher
Adam Weber (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) doubled. Junior center fielder
Nick Sampson (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) singled, walked and scored two runs while sophomore third baseman
Sam Bevin (Louisville, Ky./Wake County) drove in two runs with a pair of sacrifice flies.
Sampson scored an unearned run in the first when senior second baseman
Luke Vittone (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian) hit into a fielder's choice. Hiram tied the game in the second inning but Sampson gave Grove City a 2-1 lead in the third inning when he scored on a wild pitch.
In the fourth inning, Bevin's fly out scored freshman DH
John McIntyre (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal). Sampson's bunt single later scored Weber.
Bevin pushed Grove City's lead to 5-2 in the eighth inning when his sacrifice fly scored freshman left fielder
Braeden Coyle (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair).
Hiram scored twice in the top of the ninth and had the tying run on second base. However, sophomore

Trischler struck out two in his scoreless inning of relief. Sophomore
Jack Houston (Vienna, Va./Vienna) pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief of Earman.
Houston and Trischler now share the team lead with two saves. Six men have saves this year for Grove City (19-9).
