GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team remains atop the Presidents' Athletic Conference after splitting a home doubleheader Wednesday evening with Westminster at College Field. Westminster (18-8, 7-3) won the opener, 2-0, but Grove City (19-5, 10-2) rebounded for a 9-4 win in Game Two.
Senior
Brooke Brodie (Mogadore, Ohio/Mogadore) went 4 for 4 with a double in the nightcap while junior center fielder
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) doubled as part of a 3-for-4 outing. Junior catcher
Jonalyn Wharry (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) collected two hits and sophomore left fielder
Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) added a triple.
Grove City trailed 3-0 in the third inning but Montone tripled in senior shortstop
Rachel Zona (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) and then scored on an error. Grove City surged ahead in the fourth inning as Brodie's two-run single scored Montone and sophomore pinch runner
Abby Stouffer (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim).Â
Zona singled in Anthony to give Grove City a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Zona and Wharry scored on an error later in the inning, doubling the lead. Anthony then doubled home Brodie in the sixth to close the scoring.Â
Sophomore pitcher
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) earned the win by pitching four innings of relief. She allowed one unearned run. Brodie started in the circle and pitched three innings. She allowed two earned runs.Â
Meadors threw a three-hitter in Game One but took the setback. Westminster broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh on Morgan O'Brien's two-run double. Each team had only three hits in Game One.Â
Brodie is now hitting .571 (24 of 42) in conference play this season. She, Montone and Zona all singled in the opener.Â
Grove City will host Bethany (6-3 PAC) at 1 p.m. Saturday in a conference doubleheader.
