LITTLE RIVER, S.C. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped a 10-6 decision Wednesday morning to Lancaster Bible as part of the Wolverines' Spring Break trip to North Myrtle Beach Park. Rain canceled Grove City's second scheduled game Wednesday, a non-conference clash with Rosemont.
Grove City trailed 7-0 after three innings before charging back with a five-run fourth inning. Junior center fielder
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) helped ignite the rally with a double that scored senior right fielder
Annika Rinehart (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry). Sophomore shortstop
Abby Stouffer (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) scored on a fielder's choice while Anthony and junior pitcher
Kyla Campbell (Altoona, Pa./Glendale) both scored on a two-run single from sophomore left fielder
Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland).
Sophomore first baseman
Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) capped the inning by singling in Montone.
Anthony also singled in Rinehart in the fifth inning, cutting the Chargers' lead to 8-6. Anthony, Jackson and Montone all finished with two hits. Rinehart walked four times.
Campbell allowed one earned run in 3 1/3 innings of relief. She struck out three. Senior
Brooke Brodie (Mogadore, Ohio/Mogadore) pitched 2 2/3 innings and took the defeat. She allowed four runs while fanning two.
Grove City (2-3) will face Bay Path at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Wolverines will then play Brooklyn at 1 p.m.
