GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games by sweeping a home Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday with Waynesburg University at College Field. Grove City (14-4, 6-0) rallied for a 4-2 win in the opener, then captured a 6-2 victory in Game Two.
Grove City's 11-game winning streak is the longest in the 45-year history of the College's softball program.Â
The Wolverines trailed 2-0 in the fifth inning of Game One but surged ahead with a three-run rally. Sophomore DP
Emma Covert (Chicora, Pa./Moniteau) sparked the comeback with a solo home run to left. Sophomore left fielder
Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) tied the game when she singled in sophomore pinch runner
Abby Stouffer (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim).Â
Montone scored the go-ahead run on a groundout by junior shortstop
Kyla Campbell (Altoona, Pa./Glendale). In the sixth, Covert pushed the lead to 4-2 when her groundout scored senior first baseman
Brooke Brodie (Mogadore, Ohio/Mogadore).
Waynesburg loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh against sophomore pitcher
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion). Campbell took over in the pitcher's circle and induced a game-ending pop out by Grace Higgins. Campbell recorded her first collegiate save.
Meadors (7-1) earned the win after striking out eight batters in 6 2/3 innings. She allowed two runs.Â
Brodie doubled as part of a 3-for-3 outing. Junior catcher
Kristin Tesch (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) also doubled.Â
Campbell threw a four-hitter in Game Two to improve to 5-0 on the season. She struck out three, walked one and did not allow an earned run in seven innings.Â
Grove City again erased an early 2-0 deficit by scoring three times in the bottom of the second. Junior catcher
Jonalyn Wharry (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) walked with the bases loaded, scoring freshman pinch runner
Sydney McBride (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield). Junior center fielder
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) scored on a wild pitch and Montone's groundout scored senior shortstop
Rachel Zona (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) with the go-ahead run.Â
The lead grew to 4-2 in the fourth inning as Montone drove in Anthony with a fielder's choice. Senior second baseman
Maci Linhart (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana) then roped a two-run double that scored Montone and senior right fielder
Annika Rinehart (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry).Â
Montone also tripled for Grove City, which had only four hits in the nightcap.Â
Grove City has won 29 of its last 37 games, dating back to the second half of the 2024 season.
The Wolverines will visit Allegheny at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for a conference doubleheader.Â
