GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team earned its third straight Presidents' Athletic Conference title by pulling out a 1-0 win Saturday evening over visiting Waynesburg in the conference tournament title match at Don Lyle Field.
It is Grove City's third consecutive conference crown. The shutout marked the 11th straight whitewash for the Wolverine defense, extending a program record.
Top-seeded Grove City (13-4-2) seized a 1-0 lead at 13:48 as freshman forward
Lauren Muhanna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon) scored her sixth goal of the season. Sophomore forward
Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) assisted Muhanna's game-winner, her second game-winning goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper
Maddie Mills (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) recorded her eighth full shutout of the season by stopping 10 shots. The 10 saves are one shy of a career high for Mills, who earned her 13th win of the season.
Grove City outshot the second-seeded Yellow Jackets (15-3-2) by a 28-15 margin. Grove City had 11 shots on goal and Waynesburg finished with 10 shots on goal. The Wolverines accumulated a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Waynesburg entered Saturday's match with a conference-leading 69 goals as a team. The Wolverines also blanked Waynesburg in the October 29 regular season finale, 4-0. That win gave Grove City the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
Grove City has won 10 all-time conference titles. Saturday's victory also gives the Wolverines the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Grove City will make its eighth all-time NCAA Tournament appearance.
The NCAA Division III Tournament pairings will be announced Monday at 11:30 a.m.
