GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team closed the 2025 season Friday afternoon by dropping a 1-0 double-overtime decision to Calvin in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, hosted by Hobart College.
Calvin (17-3-1) broke the scoreless tie 62 seconds into the second overtime when Zac Brooks scored his sixth goal of the season. The goal came after assists from Hans Pruis and Matt Torrell.
Calvin outshot Grove City, 19-18. Each team had 17 shots in regulation and one shot during the first overtime. Grove City owned a 7-2 edge in corner kicks for the match.
Freshman goalkeeper
Keller Krieger (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence) made six saves for the Wolverines, who finished the season 15-3-2. The 15 wins are tied for the second-most in program history.
Grove City earned its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1980 by virtue of winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference title. The conference championship marked Grove City's first league crown in 20 years.
Calvin hosted Grove City during the regular season September 20 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Thunderstorms halted the match in the second half that night before it became an official match. Had the match been completed, the teams would not have been eligible to meet in the first round of the national tournament.
Calvin faces Messiah in the second round Saturday. Messiah upset host Hobart in Friday's first match in overtime, 1-0.
