SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's volleyball team opened the 2024 season Friday afternoon by going 1-1 in the first day of action at the Great Lakes Crossover, hosted by Heidelberg University at Cedar Point.
Grove City opened the day with a 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18 setback against John Carroll. The Wolverines rebounded in the nightcap to sweep Hiram, however, 25-19, 25-18, 25-23.
Sophomore
Alexis Standford (Walkersville, Md./New Life Christian) paced Grove City in the win over Hiram by recording eight kills. Junior
Lila Stonehouse (Hatboro, Pa./Abington) added seven kills and sophomore
Lily Lagaras (Crofton, Md./Crofton) chipped in five kills.
Senior setter
Kennedy Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and junior setter
Brooklyn Wirebaugh (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) both had 10 assists. Sophomore
Sarah Harris (Lebanon, Ohio/Mars Hill) added a career-high eight assists.
Sophomores
Alayna Dorst (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and
Kendra Klusch (Alliance, Ohio/Homeschooled) both had three aces. Lagaras served two aces.
Sophomore libero
Julia Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) led the defense with 10 digs. Kerr and junior
Ella Kopas (Tucson, Ariz./Veritas) both had six digs.
Lagaras posted a career-high 12 kills in the opener against John Carroll. Stonehouse also had a career high in kills, registering 10. Dorst tallied nine kills.
Kerr recorded two dozen assists and Wirebaugh added 10 assists. Dorst also served three aces.
Freshman
Lily Pool (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) recorded four blocks. Klusch and Stonehouse both added three blocks. Dorst chalked up 11 digs while Fisher and Lagaras each had 10 digs.
Grove City returns to action Saturday with an 8 a.m. match against Manchester. The Wolverines close the tournament at noon by facing Heidelberg.
