Wolverines, North Central square off in 1st round

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's tennis team will make its eighth all-time appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament when the Wolverines face North Central in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The teams will meet Thursday afternoon at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Grove City earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament by winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament title in October. The Wolverines (14-5) topped top-seeded Allegheny, 5-2, in the finals.

North Central won the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) title April 27 with a 5-1 decision over North Park. The Cardinals (23-7) won their fourth consecutive CCIW title while also clinching a fourth straight NCAA Tournament berth.

North Central advanced to the second round of the tournament in both 2022 and 2023. This is the third straight year in which North Central has been sent to Carnegie Mellon for the national tournament.

The Grove City-North Central winner will play Carnegie Mellon in the second round Friday. Thursday's first opening round match pits Penn State-Harrisburg against Transylvania. The winner of that match will play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Friday's first match. Friday's two match winners will meet Saturday afternoon.
