GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team opened its 2024 Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Wednesday afternoon by sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Franciscan at College Field. Grove City earned a 5-0 win in the opener, then secured a 13-3, five-inning victory in Game Two.
Freshman pitcher
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) fired a two-hit shutout in the opener for the Wolverines, who have won six straight games. Meadors (5-2) struck out a career-high 13 batters in seven innings to record her third shutout of the season.
Offensively, senior designated player
Erin Mulholland (Malvern, Pa./Delaware County Christian) went 3 for 3 with a double and four runs batted in. Meanwhile, junior second baseman
Maci Linhart (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana) went 3 for 3 with a triple and three runs scored. Junior right fielder
Annika Rinehart (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) added two hits.
Mulholland's two-run double in the first brought home Linhart and senior catcher
Lauren Harris (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). In the third, Mulholland singled in Linhart to give Grove City a 3-0 lead. Sophomore pinch runner
Kristin Tesch (Clinton Township, Pa./Chippewa Valley) scored the Wolverines' fourth run of the game on a wild pitch.
Mulholland closed the scoring with a fifth-inning single that plated Linhart.
Franciscan put two runners on in the top of the seventh but Meadors recorded a pair of strikeouts to close out the win.
In the nightcap, Grove City posted five runs in the bottom of the first and added seven more runs in the second inning. Mulholland went 2 for 2 and knocked in three more runs. Harris also went 2 for 2. Junior third baseman
Rachel Zona (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) and freshman left fielder
Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) both tripled.

Emma Covert (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) all scored a pair of runs.
Mulholland singled in Harris to open the scoring in the first inning. Junior pitcher
Brooke Brodie (Mogadore, Ohio/Mogadore) ignited the second inning outburst by singling in sophomore center fielder
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion). Mulholland's two-run single brought in Harris and Brodie as the lead swelled to 8-0.
Zona tripled in Covert and then scored on a single by junior right fielder
Kamryn Weissinger (Youngsville, Pa./Youngsville). In the fourth, Covert singled in Montone.
Brodie started in the circle and pitched two scoreless innings. She allowed one hit and fanned two. Freshman
Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) pitched two perfect innings of relief, earning the win. Jackson (3-2) struck out three batters.
Junior
Emily Wentworth (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) pitched the fifth and struck out two. She allowed one earned run.
Grove City will visit conference foe Bethany at 11 a.m. Friday.
