Grove City closes regular season with split

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's volleyball team closed the 2024 regular season Saturday by splitting a non-conference tri-match at Carnegie Mellon University. The Wolverines dropped the opener to CMU at Highmark Center, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20. However, Grove City (15-14) rebounded for a 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 25-23 triumph over Oberlin in Saturday's finale.

Sophomore Lily Lagaras (Crofton, Md./Crofton) paced Grove City with 11 kills against Oberlin while classmate Alayna Dorst (Middletown, Del./Middletown) posted 10 kills. Freshman Sage LaTour (Brown Summit, N.C./Homeschooled) added a season-high nine kills.

Junior setter Brooklyn Wirebaugh (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) recorded 19 assists while senior setter Kennedy Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) had 12 assists.

Junior Lila Stonehouse (Hatboro, Pa./Abington) and freshman Lilly Pool (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) both had three blocks. LaTour and sophomore Alexis Standford (Walkersville, Md./New Life Christian) each had two blocks.

Sophomore libero Julia Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) tallied a team-high 23 digs. Kerr added 11 digs.

Defensively, Pool posted four blocks while Lagaras added two blocks. Fisher recorded 21 digs while junior Ella Kopas (Tucson, Ariz./Veritas) contributed 11 digs.

Grove City must now wait on Saturday night's Presidents' Athletic Conference action to see if the Wolverines qualify for next week's conference tournament. A Bethany win over Westminster in the regular season finale would vault Grove City into the tournament.
