STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's soccer team closed the 2024 season Saturday night with a 2-1 setback at top-seeded Franciscan in the championship match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament at the Barons' Trinity Health System Field.
Franciscan (13-1-5) led 1-0 at halftime and pushed the lead to 2-0 1:22 into the second half on Aidan Henninger's goal. However, Grove City (12-4-3) countered three minutes later as graduate student defender
Connor Hudson (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) scored at 49:21. Senior midfielder
John-Luc Harbour (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield) assisted Hudson's score, his second goal of the season.Â
Julien Freeman gave Franciscan a 1-0 lead when he scored with 3:09 remaining in the first half.Â
Grove City outshot the Barons in the second half, 12-5. Overall, Grove City outshot Franciscan, 20-11, including a 9-3 margin in shots on goal. Franciscan recorded seven corner kicks while Grove City had three corners.
Junior goalkeeper
Teddy Almeter (Monroeville, Pa./Serra) made one save. He concludes the season with a 0.80 goals-against average. That is the fourth-lowest mark in Grove City history.Â
Grove City will lose Almeter, who is graduating early, along with Harbour, Hudson, defender
Jacen Davis (Redlands, Calif./Citrus Valley), defender
Luke Kimmich (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), forward
Jordan Rebsamen (Charlotte, N.C./Carmel Christian) and midfielder
Will Rybka (Peninsula, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) to graduation.
