However, Thiel took the lead for good with a 12-2 run over the next five minutes. Thiel led by as many as nine, 66-57, but Cano and freshman guard Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) scored on successive possessions to cut Thiel's lead to five with five minutes remaining.

Yarberough's three-pointer cut the lead to 77-74 with 20 seconds remaining. Thiel sealed the win by going 4 for 6 at the foul line in the closing moments.

Christenson added nine points for Grove City, which finished the game 28 of 67 (42 percent) from the field. Thiel converted 30 of its 61 field goal attempts (49 percent). Grove City held a 42-36 edge on the glass.
