SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened the 2022 season Friday and Saturday by playing four matches at the Great Lakes Crossover, hosted at Cedar Point by Heidelberg University. Friday, the Wolverines opened the two-day event by dropping a 25-12, 25-15, 25-18 decision to Case Western Reserve. Muskingum then handed Grove City a 25-9, 25-13, 25-9 setback in Friday's finale.
Saturday, the Wolverines opened the day with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 setback against Baldwin Wallace. The Wolverines won the first two sets in Saturday's finale against Hiram, 25-11 and 25-12. However, Hiram rallied in the final three sets, picking up 25-23, 25-22 and 15-7 set wins.
Senior
Faith Keating (Troy, Mich./Troy) paced Grove City in the finale against Hiram by recording 10 kills. Sophomore
Audrey Donnelly (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge) and freshman
Bella Costa (Newbury, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) both posted seven kills for the Wolverines.Â
Sophomore setter
Kennedy Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) recorded 23 assists and freshman
Brooklyn Wirebaugh (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) added 14 assists. Costa served three aces while Kerr and Wirebaugh both served a pair of aces.
Junior
Anna DeGraaf (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the defense with seven blocks. Donnelly delivered four blocks while senior
Robyn Collier (Corona, Calif./Carnegie Riverside) added three blocks. Keating and junior
Gabby Lucas (Butler, Pa./Butler) each chalked up 16 digs. Kerr added 13 digs and Wirebaugh had a dozen digs.Â
Keating had six kills in Saturday's opener against Baldwin Wallace. Kerr and Wirebaugh both distributed five assists. Keating also had 16 digs while Costa contributed 13 digs.Â
DeGraaf led Grove City in Friday's opener against Case Western Reserve as she tallied eight kills. Kerr recorded 11 assists. Lucas led the defensive effort with 15 digs and Donnelly chipped in with two blocks. Keating also had five kills against Muskingum. She and Wirebaugh both served two aces. Kerr had seven assists.Â
Grove City will visit Allegheny at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a non-conference match between Presidents' Athletic Conference members.
