STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 2-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by rolling to a 6-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Franciscan.
Senior forwad
Sam Belitz (Independence, Ohio/Independence) recorded a hat trick to help pace the Wolverines (4-4) while sophomore forward
Jordan Rebsamen (Charlotte, N.C./Carmel Christian), junior midfielder
Lance Lenosky (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River) and junior
Chris Eklund (St. Charles, Ill./Wheaton Academy) also scored in the victory.
Belitz gave Grove City a 1-0 lead at 17:19 after receiving an assist from junior forward
Hunter Hardin (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Freeport). Eight minutes later, Belitz added an unassisted goal to push the lead to 2-0 at 25:18.
Grove City then broke open the match by scoring four times in a 29-minute span in the second half. Belitz completed his hat trick at 48:28, with sophomore defender
Luke Kimmich (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) supplying the assist.
Hardin recorded his second assist of the afternoon at 56:50 when he fed Rebsamen, who notched his second goal of the season.Â
Lenosky pushed the lead to 5-0 when he scored at 70:37. Freshman
Jed Hart (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) assisted Lenosky's tally.
Eklund closed the scoring at 77:31 with his first goal of 2022. Junior midfielder
Chris DeLucia (Kent, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) assisted on the goal.
Grove City held a 27-15 edge in total shots, along with a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal. Grove City doubled up the Barons in corner kicks, 6-3.
Senior goalkeeper
Jesse Greyshock (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) stopped five shots to record his second shutout of the week. Greyshock preserved a scoreless tie 3:50 into the match by stopping a penalty kick.
Grove City has now produced a hat trick in each of its first two conference wins. Wednesday, Hardin scored all three goals in a 3-0 victory over visiting Chatham.
Belitz now has 33 career goals, which ranks sixth on Grove City's career scoring list. He needs two goals to tie Christian Caporaso (2016-19) for fifth. Belitz leads the team with six goals and 12 points. Hardin ranks second with eight points.
Grove City will host conference rival Westminster at 7 p.m. at Don Lyle Field.
