GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team extended its win streak to seven matches by earning a 25-13, 25-15, 23-25, 27-25 victory Tuesday night over visiting Geneva in a non-conference match at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City (7-5) trailed 24-22 in the fourth set before scoring five of the final six points to secure the match victory.
Freshman
Bella Costa (Newbury, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) paced the Wolverines with 11 kills while senior
Faith Keating (Troy, Mich./Troy) posted nine kills. Junior
Eloise Augustine (West Chester, Ohio/Mars Hill) added eight kills.
Freshman setter
Brooklyn Wirebaugh (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) helped direct the attack with 20 assists and sophomore
Kennedy Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) recorded 16 assists. Costa served three aces while Wirebaugh and junior
Anna DeGraaf (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) both had two aces.
Keating led Grove City's defensive efforts with 20 digs. Junior libero
Gabby Lucas (Butler, Pa./Butler) tallied 19 digs while Costa and Kerr each added 11 digs.
Sophomore
Audrey Donnelly (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge) posted six blocks and Augustine had three total blocks.
Tuesday's match also marked Grove City's 2022 home opener. The Wolverines are 8-2 in their last 10 home openers. Grove City now leads the all-time series with Geneva, 37-36. The teams will play a Presidents' Athletic Conference match October 1 at Geneva. This season, the conference is playing a 10-match single round-robin schedule for the 11 members.
Grove City last won seven straight matches in 2007, when the Wolverines opened the season 8-0.
Grove City will visit Carnegie Mellon for a pair of non-conference matches Saturday. The Wolverines play CMU at 11 a.m., then face Marietta at 3 p.m. in the finale.
