Evan Umland (Pasadena, Calif./La Canada) fired eight shutout innings and junior batterymate
C.J. Saylor (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) roped a pair of doubles Friday afternoon to help lead the Grove City College baseball team to a 5-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory at Franciscan.
Umland struck out seven batters, allowed four hits and did not walk a man in eight innings. He improved to 5-1 on the season and lowered his season earned run average to 2.33.
Saylor doubled and then scored on a groundout by freshman third baseman
Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) to give Grove City a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The lead grew to 2-0 later in the inning when senior first baseman
Bubba Hamilton (Garner, N.C./Waynesboro, Pa.) scored on an error.
Grove City (16-7, 7-3 PAC) extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning as senior right fielder
Colton Lineman (Apex, N.C./Northwood) doubled and then scored on a single from sophomore DH
Markus Williams (Sewickley, Pa./Eden Christian).
In the top of the ninth, Saylor doubled in Lineman and then scored on an error.Â
Lineman finished 2 for 4, as did freshman center fielder
Nico Rodriguez (Stafford, Va./Mountain View). Kilbane went 2 for 5.Â

Nate Hamel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) pitched the ninth, allowing one run.
Grove City will return to Franciscan for a conference doubleheader Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The games had been scheduled to be played at Grove City but field conditions and impending weather forced the switch. The Wolverines will be the home team for both of Saturday's games.
