Ostrowski fans 13 in 4-1 win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Senior pitcher Tate Ostrowski (Essex, Mass./Covenant Christian) struck out a career-high 13 batters Friday night to help lead the Grove City College baseball team to a 4-1 victory at Chatham in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at West Field.

Ostrowski threw a complete game, allowing no earned runs and two walks over nine innings. He improved to 7-1 and lowered his league-leading earned run average to 1.67. His seven wins also lead the conference.

Junior catcher C.J. Saylor (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) tripled and singled while freshman second baseman Luke Vittone (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian) doubled twice to help lead the Grove City offense.

The Wolverines grabbed a quick 1-0 lead as Vittone led off the game with a double and then scored on a Saylor single. In the third, Vittone cracked another leadoff double, moved to third on Saylor's fly out and scored when freshman third baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) roped a double.

Kilbane drove in Saylor with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, pushing the lead to 3-0. Chatham trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the seventh by scoring an unearned run but the Wolverines answered as senior left fielder Jesse Clary doubled in freshman center fielder Nico Rodriguez (Stafford, Va./Mountain View).

Grove City finished with eight hits. Ostrowski held Chatham to three hits, all singles. He now has a conference-leading 80 strikeouts this year. Ostrowski moved into second place on Grove City's career strikeout list with 170.

The Wolverines will host Chatham at 1 p.m. Saturday in a conference doubleheader at Jack Behringer Field.
