GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The historic inaugural season of Grove City College women's lacrosse added another milestone Wednesday evening as the Wolverines (12-2, 6-0 PAC) earned a 13-5 home win over Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Don Lyle Field. The win clinches at least the No. 2 seed for Grove City in the season-ending four-team conference tournament, which will be held in the first week of May.
Senior attack
Brooke Stoltzfus (Elverson, Pa./Conestoga Christian) and junior midfielder
Madison Nazigian (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) each pumped in four goals for Grove City while sophomore attack
Madeline Dunda (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) added two goals and a pair of assists for the Wolverines.Â
Thiel (5-4, 3-2 PAC) took an early 1-0 lead but Grove City stormed ahead by scoring nine straight goals. Freshman
Amber Wartman (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) tied the game with 9:47 left in the opening quarter after receiving an assist from Dunda. Dunda scored the go-ahead goal one minute later after an assist from freshman attack
Sarah Pindel (Hartville, Ohio/Lake).
Nazigian scored three times and Stoltzfus scored a pair of goals to help extend the lead to 7-1 late in the second period. Pindel then assisted a goal by freshman attack
Abby Roetering (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) with 1:36 left in the half. Stoltzfus capped the outburst by scoring an unassisted gioal with 1:09 left, giving Grove City a 9-1 halftime lead.
Sophomore midfielder
Lucy Martin (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) also scored for the Wolverines. Roetering and Stoltzfus each tallied assists.
Nazigian recorded a game-high eight draw controls, along with six ground balls. Roetering, Stoltzfus and freshman defender
Sarah Jackson (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) all had three ground balls. Jackson and Nazigian each caused two turnovers.
Freshman goalie
Elyse Kiggins (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) matched her season-high by making 15 saves. Kiggins earned her 12th win of the season and leads the conference with a 7.47 goals-against average.Â
Grove City outshot Thiel, 28-26. Thiel had 18 turnovers while Grove City committed 17 turnovers.Â
The Wolverines will close their home schedule next Tuesday, April 26, by hosting Westminster in conference action at 6 p.m. The game will be held at Don Lyle Field.
