GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter Wednesday night against visiting Franciscan, on the way to an 88-38 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory in the Grove City College Arena.
Fifteen Grove City players hit the scoring column, led by a 20-point outing from senior guard
Megan Kallock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem). Kallock went 8 for 11 from the field in Wednesday's win.
Sophomore guard
Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) added 12 points for the Wolverines (2-4, 2-1 PAC). Sophomore guard
Jaden Davinsizer (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) and freshman guard
Emily Garvin (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) both chipped in nine points.
Grove City finished the game 36 of 84 (43 percent) from the field. The Wolverines limited Franciscan to an 11-for-53 (21 percent) shooting effort in the game.
Grove City also held a 55-44 edge on the glass. Junior center
Katie Baller (Lone Tree, Colo./Valor Christian) pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds. Sophomore forward
Hayley Fenchel (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) added five rebounds.
Polczynski also had four assists. Fenchel and sophomore
Ashley Durig (Washington, Pa./Trinity) each assisted three field goals. Durig also had four steals. Kallock and Polczynski both tallied three steals.
Grove City forced 38 Franciscan turnovers. The Wolverines turned over the ball 21 times.
Ilena Gonzales led Franciscan (1-4, 0-3 PAC) with 15 points. Grove City led 22-4 after one quarter and then held a 44-18 halftime advantage. The Wolverines led 65-27 after three periods. Grove City played 17 players, with no player accumulating more than 18 minutes played.
Grove City will visit conference rival Westminster at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in New Wilmington.
