GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team battled visiting Bethany to a 3-3, double-overtime deadlock Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, held at Don Lyle Field. Bethany then earned the berth in Saturday's title match by winning a shootout with Grove City, 4-1. Officially, the match will be recorded as a draw.
Bethany grabbed a 1-0 lead at 9:43 when Modou Faye scored to break a scoreless tie. Grove City countered less than seven minutes later, though, as senior forward
Sam Belitz (Independence, Ohio/Independence) scored his team-leading 14th goal at 16:15. Sophomore midfielder
John-Luc Harbour (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield) assisted Belitz's tying goal.
Bethany carried a 2-1 lead into halftime after Jahzino O'Garro's unassisted goal at 29:00. Grove City quickly tied the match 2:49 into the second half when sophomore forward
Jordan Rebsamen (Charlotte, N.C./Carmel Christian) scored the tying goal. Freshman defender
Camden Thomas (North Lima, Ohio/South Range) assisted Rebsamen's goal, his sixth of the season.
Top-seeded Grove City (12-5-1) then took its first lead of the night at 54:11 when Harbour blasted his first goal of 2022 into the net. Sophomore defender
Luke Kimmich (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) assisted Harbour's goal.
Bethany's Jayzeba James forged the third tie of the match by scoring at 63:19.Â
Grove City out-shot Bethany, 4-2, in the 20 minutes of extra time. Overall, Grove City doubled up Bethany in total shots, 18-9. The Wolverines put nine shots on goal while Bethany had four shots on goal. Grove City also owned an 11-4 edge in corner kicks, including a 3-1 corner kick edge in overtime.Â

Jesse Greyshock (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) made one save for Grove City.Â
Bethany advances to play Franciscan in Saturday's conference tournament title match.Â
