GREENVILLE, Pa. -- A 51-point outburst in the second half helped lift the Grove City College women's basketball team to an 81-57 win Monday night at Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia. Grove City led 30-26 at halftime before breaking open the game in the third quarter, on the way to its fifth straight victory.
Four Grove City players scored in double figures, led by a 19-point outing from junior guard
Megan Kallock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem). Senior forward
Allison Podkul (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) recorded a 14-point, 17-rebound double-double, her sixth double-double of the season.
Freshman guards
Nevaeh Ewing (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) and
Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) both fired in 10 points for the Wolverines (12-6, 9-3 PAC).
Grove City took command of the game with an 11-1 run in latter half of the third quarter as Kallock and Ewing sparked the spurt with consecutive three-pointers. Podkul capped the run with a jumper, helping Grove City take a 59-44 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Grove City hit 12 of 22 (55 percent) shots from the field in the third quarter. Overall, the Wolverines hit 30 of 71 (42 percent) shots from the floor. Thiel finished 16 of 58 (28 percent). Grove City held Thiel to 6 of 28 (21 percent) shooting in the second half.
Freshman center
Kiley Ingram (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) added six rebounds and junior center
Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) pulled in five boards. Grove City held a 54-35 edge on the glass.Â
Podkul and Polczynski both had four assists. Freshman guard
Haley Hertzler (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) added three assists. Kallock had three steals. Grove City committed 17 turnovers while Thiel had 15 turnovers.
Freshman guard
Jaden Davinsizer (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) hit three three-pointers for the Wolverines and finished with nine points. Twenty-four of her team-leading 30 three-pointers have come in conference play.
Cano added eight points. Grove City led 17-14 after one quarter.
Emily Grandy led Thiel (4-10, 2-6 PAC) with 19 points.
Now riding a five-game win streak, Grove City will visit Geneva at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in conference action.Â
