GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team closed the spring 2021 season Tuesday night by dropping a 2-1 decision to visiting Washington & Jefferson in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at Don Lyle Field.
Grove City (7-2) broke through at 89:57 when junior midfielder
Bryce Deaven (Newport, Pa./Greenwood) scored in front of the goal area. Junior defender
Drew Yun (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) assisted Deaven's goal, his first score of the season.
The Wolverines appeared to take a 1-0 lead at 8:17 when sophomore forward
Mark Guinta (Fairfield, Conn./Christian Heritage) beat W&J goalie Samuel Miller. However, an offside violation negated the goal.
Third-seeded W&J (7-2-1) broke a scoreless tie at 51:11 when Jake Fetterman scored. Jayden Da boosted the lead to 2-0 when he scored at 73:54. Da also assisted Fetterman's goal.
W&J held an 11-7 edge in shots. Each team had three corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper
Luke Greenway (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) stopped four shots for Grove City while Miller made two saves.
Grove City will lose seniors
Jeffrey Biddle (Grove City, Pa./Grove City),
Wyatt Grimm (Volant, Pa./Grove City) and
Seth Wade (Winchester, Va./Sherando) to graduation. The Wolverines project to return 10 starters for the fall season, which will begin in August.
