WASHINGTON, Pa. -- A nine-goal outburst in the second quarter Saturday afternoon helped vault the Grove City College men's lacrosse team to a 19-8 victory at Washington & Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Alexandre Stadium. Grove City (8-1) earned its eighth straight overall win and raised its conference record to 5-0.
Grove City broke a 3-3 tie with 12:25 remaining in the first half when sophomore long stick midfielder
Kyle Coogan (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Christian) scored his second goal of the season. That sparked Grove City's nine-goal flurry.
Junior forward
Blaise Bishop (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) scored three times in the second period while junior forward
Michael La Forte (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and junior midfielder
Brett Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) both scored twice. Sophomore
James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus) added a goal in the quarter.
After leading 12-4 at halftime, Grove City then sealed the win with six third-quarter goals. La Forte and sophomore
Max Chmura (Wadsworth, Ohio/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) both scored twice in the third while Gladstone and Petrolle also scored.Â
La Forte led Grove City with five goals and Gladstone pumped in four goals. Bishop and Petrolle each finished with three goals. Junior
Jed Speers (Medina, Ohio/Medina) also scored for the Wolverines.Â

Sophomore defender
Bailey Decker (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) caused a career-high five turnovers to help lead the Wolverine defense. He also picked up five ground balls. Junior
Grant Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) led Grove City with 11 ground balls. Gladstone and junior defender
Cody Adams (Pullman, Wash./Pullman) both recorded four ground balls. Evans won 13 of 17 faceoffs.
Sophomore
Jack Petit (Pensacola, Fla./West Florida High School of Advanced Technology) played the first half in goal and freshman
Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) played the final 30 minutes. Both men stopped two shots. Petit earned the win.
Grove City outshot W&J, 49-24, including a 33-12 edge in shots on goal. Grove City had 17 turnovers while W&J turned over possession 29 times.Â
Grove City will conclude the regular season next Saturday at 1 p.m. by hosting Westminster in conference play at Robert E. Thorn Field.
