Grove City now 6-6 in PAC

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped to 6-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference as the Wolverines fell twice Tuesday afternoon to visiting Westminster (26-2, 10-2 PAC) at College Field. Westminster won the opener, 9-0, and followed with a 9-1 decision in Game Two.

Grove City broke through in the bottom of the sixth of the nightcap as senior right fielder Hannah Dietz (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) singled home freshman pinch runner Kaitlyn Constantino (Clarion, Pa./Clarion). Constantino ran for sophomore pitcher Janessa Dawson (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley), who led off the inning with a double.

The Wolverines loaded the bases in the sixth but could not further cut into the deficit.

Dawson threw a complete game in the nightcap, striking out two and walking two batters in six innings. She yielded seven earned runs and took the defeat.

Dawson and Dietz both doubled for Grove City (11-15 overall) in Game One. Dawson now has a 12-game hitting streak.

Senior pitcher Ashley Cornelius (Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman) threw a complete game in the circle but absorbed the setback. Cornelius struck out four batters and walked one in six innings.

Grove City will host Washington & Jefferson in a conference doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. at College Field.
