GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team continued its midseason surge Saturday afternoon by rolling to a 92-63 Senior Day home win over Franciscan in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena. The Wolverines have now won three straight games, with all three wins coming this week.
Grove City recognized seniors
Connor Martin (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area),
Chris McKrell (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder),
Erik Meiners (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville)
Joe Meola (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) and
Justice Rice (Monessen, Pa./Monessen) prior to Saturday's game.
However, a junior and a redshirt freshman snagged a share of the spotlight during the game. Junior guard
Isaac Thrasher (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) bombed in five three-pointers as part of a career-high 17 points. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman forward
Luca Robinson (Castaic, Calif./Hart) poured in 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor.
Overall, Grove City shot 33 of 63 (52 percent) from the field for the game. The Wolverines held Franciscan (2-5) to 24 percent (15 of 62) shooting for the game.Â
Grove City took control of the game with a 15-2 run midway through the first half. Meiners gave Grove City a 20-18 lead by hitting one of his two three-pointers. McKrell, Rice and junior guard
Ben Rose (Helena, Ala./Helena) all added field goals. Consecutive Robinson layups pushed the lead to 32-20.Â
Thrasher drilled a three-pointer with 3:09 left in the half, giving Grove City a 40-25 lead. The Wolverines led 41-26 at halftime.
Rice fired in 13 points while Rose finished with nine points. McKrell and Meiners added eight points each.Â
Junior center
Josh Brown (Enumclaw, Wash./Enumclaw) ripped down a game-high 10 rebounds for Grove City (4-2) and Rice had eight rebounds. Grove City held a 51-33 edge on the glass.Â
McKrell recorded three assists. Sophomore forwards
Chris Gerello (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) and
Elijah White (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) both blocked a pair of shots.Â
Grove City committed 15 turnovers and Franciscan had 14 turnovers. Justin Mack led Franciscan with 21 points.
The Wolverines will host Washington & Jefferson (5-2) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Grove City College Arena.
