LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team evened its record at 2-2 by earning an 83-61 road win Monday night over Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Carey Center.
Grove City held Saint Vincent to 32 percent (20 of 61) shooting from the field for the game. The Wolverines also out-rebounded Saint Vincent, 48-34. Meanwhile, the Wolverines shot 33 of 66 (50 percent) from the floor as three men scored in double figures.
Senior guard
Justice Rice (Monessen, Pa./Monessen) paced Grove City with 14 points while redshirt freshman forward
Luca Robinson (Castaic, Calif./Hart) posted 11 points. Senior forward
Joe Meola (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) added 10 points, along with a team-leading seven rebounds.
Grove City used a 23-5 run to surge ahead in the first half. The Wolverines held Saint Vincent without a field goal for over eight minutes during that run. Robinson sparked the run with a jumper while senior guard
Erik Meiners (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) put Grove City ahead 14-13 with a three-pointer. Meola scored in the paint and sophomore guard
Aaron Good (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wapakoneta) pushed the lead to 18-13 with two free throws.
Junior guard
Isaac Thrasher (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) buried a three-pointer on the final possession of the half to give Grove City a 38-27 halftime lead.
The Wolverines did not relinquish their double-digit lead in the second half and led by as many as 23 points over the final 20 minutes. Grove City shot 17 of 31 (55 percent) from the field in the second half, including 2-for-2 accuracy on three-point attempts.
Junior guard
Ben Rose (Helena, Ala./Helena) contributed eight points for Grove City and Good finished with seven points. Sophomore forward
Elijah White (Zelienople, Pa./Portersville Christian) added six rebounds while senior forward
Chris McKrell (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) collected five rebounds.
Rice recorded four assists and Rose had three assists. Thirteen men scored for Grove City. Twelve men played 10 minutes or more. Only Meola (21) played more than 20 minutes in the game.
Kaleb Fields led Saint Vincent (2-4) with 15 points.
Grove City will host Thiel at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in conference action. The Wolverines will then host league foe Franciscan at 1 p.m. Saturday.
