Grove City edged in semifinals

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision Wednesday night to visiting Bethany in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at Don Lyle Field. Fifth-seeded Bethany advances to play No. 2 Franciscan in Saturday night's title match.

Top-seeded Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead at 43:19 when freshman forward Jordan Rebsamen (Charlotte, N.C./Carmel Christian) scored his first collegiate goal. Sophomore midfielder Chris DeLucia (Kent, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) assisted Rebsamen's goal. 

Bethany (9-7-1) forged a 1-1 tie at 61:02 when Sebastian Arrocain struck a deflection into the net from 20 yards out. The Bison then took the lead on Arnold Fontes-Candida's unassisted goal at 71:19.

Bethany held a 14-8 edge in shots for the match. Grove City held a 7-6 shot edge at halftime. Bethany had five shots on goal while Grove City put four shots on goal. Bethany had a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Luke Greenway (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) made two saves while playing a scorless first half. Junior Jesse Greyshock (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) made one save during the second half. 

Each of Bethany's last four matches has been by a one-goal margin. The Bison won their final two regular season matches to earn a spot in the tournament, then defeated Chatham in last Saturday's quarterfinals, 2-1.

Midfielder Bryce Deaven (Newport, Pa./Greenwood), midfielder Josh Flenniken (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian), defender Christian Giannetti (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Greenway, forward Holton Gwaltney (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and midfielder Kennan Roewer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Classical Academy) comprise the Wolverines' six-man senior class.
