GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team remained atop the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 1-0 home win Friday night over longtime rival Geneva at Don Lyle Field. Grove City has now won four straight matches and leads the conference with a 4-0 record.
Grove City (6-6 overall) broke through at 87:07 as sophomore forward
Hunter Hardin (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Freeport) scored his second game-winning goal of the season. Hardin received a pass from junior forward
Sam Belitz (Independence, Ohio/Independence) and directed the ball past Geneva goalkeeper Gabe Kemp.
Hardin is now tied for second on the team with four goals this season. Belitz has a team-leading five assists, along with eight goals and 21 total points.Â
Grove City outshot Geneva 16-14 for the match, including a 9-4 edge in the second half. Geneva had seven shots on goal while Grove City put four shots on goal. The Wolverines held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper
Luke Greenway (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) posted six saves in the first half for Grove City. Junior
Jesse Greyshock (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) made one save in the second half to earn the victory. Kemp made three saves for Geneva (3-7-2, 1-3 PAC).
Grove City had played each of its last five matches on the road. The Wolverines had not played at Don Lyle Field since September 18.Â
Grove City returns to the road Wednesday night when the Wolverines visit Westminster. That conference match will start at 7:30 p.m.
