Grove City tops SVC, 3-1

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team closed the 2021 regular season Wednesday evening by earning a 3-1 home win over Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Don Lyle Field. Grove City (10-7, 7-2 PAC) clinched the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament with Wednesday's victory. The Wolverines receive a bye into the semifinals of the six-team tournament.

Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 19:35 mark when junior forward Hailey Weinert (Bel Air, Md./Kennett, Pa.) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Megan Mathes (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) assisted Weinert's goal.

The Wolverines doubled the lead 2:38 into the second half as sophomore defender Rachel Sullivan (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) blasted in her first goal of the season from the right wing. Senior forward Jacqui Netschert (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) assisted Sullivan's score.

Saint Vincent cut the lead to 2-1 at 50:29 on Lauren May's goal. Grove City reclaimed its two-goal lead 17 minutes later, however, as Weinert scored her second goal of the evening. Freshman forward Natalie Merrick (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) provided the assist.

Grove City held a 13-8 edge in shots, including a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. Grove City had four corner kicks while Saint Vincent (5-11, 2-7 PAC) had three corners.

Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) made two saves to earn her 10th win of the season.
