WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College football team improved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 38-0 road win Saturday afternoon over Waynesburg at Wiley Stadium. The win is the 500th in program history.
The Grove City defense recorded five sacks while the offense produced a 300-yard passer and a pair of 100-yard receivers.
Senior linebacker
Parker Kilgore (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and junior linebacker
Ryan Fleming (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) both recorded 1.5 sacks for the Wolverines while senior safety
Patrick Mark (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Wellington) and freshman defensive end
Bryce Spolnik (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) each added a sack.
Senior cornerback
Branden Caffrey (Ashburn, Va./John Champe) intercepted a pass on the first drive of the game for the Wolverines.
Offensively, senior quarterback
Josh Ehst (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) completed 21 of 34 passes for 307 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver
Scott Fraser (Butler, Pa./Knoch) caught a career-high 11 passes for 139 yards. Meanwhile, senior wide receiver
Cody Gustafson (Newburg, Pa./Shippensburg) hauled in nine passes for 135 yards and a touchdown.
Freshman running back
Nico Flati (Aliquippa, Pa./West Allegheny) led Grove City's ground attack with 94 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Junior running back
Clayton Parrish (Mercer, Pa./West Middlesex) scored three rushing touchdowns, giving him a conference-best 11 touchdowns this season.
Following Caffrey's interception at the Grove City 41, the Wolverines drove to the Waynesburg 19. Senior kicker
Nick Morrow (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) drilled a 36-yard field goal to give Grove City a 3-0 lead with 11:22 remaining in the first quarter. Morrow also went 5 for 5 on extra points in the win.
Parrish pushed the lead to 10-0 at the 6:46 mark of the first quarter as he scored on a one-yard run. Ehst's 33-yard strike to sophomore wide receiver
Ryan Heckathorn (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) put Grove City inside the red zone on that drive.
Fifteen seconds into the second quarter, Ehst fired a 57-yard touchdown to Gustafson as the lead grew to 17-0. Four minutes later, Flati took an option pitch 39 yards to the end zone for his first collegiate touchdown.
Parrish closed out the scoring with respective touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters. He scored on a three-yard run with 7:47 left in the third quarter, putting Grove City up 31-0. Parrish then slammed in from the 1 with 3:33 left in the game.
Grove City finished with 416 total yards. The Wolverines went 4 for 4 on fourth downs in the win. Defensively, Grove City held Waynesburg to 238 yards and a 3-for-12 effort on third down.
Kilgore led Grove City with 17 tackles. Mark posted 11 stops while Fleming and Spolnik each recorded seven tackles.
Grove City will host Geneva at 2 p.m. next Saturday in conference play. It will be Homecoming at Robert E. Thorn Field.
