MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team opened the northern portion of the 2020 schedule Wednesday afternoon by dropping a 3-1 decision at Allegheny in non-conference action. Grove City (5-6) carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning but three unearned runs allowed Allegheny to pull ahead.

Bubba Hamilton (Garner, N.C./Waynesboro, Pa.) all went 2 for 5 for the Wolverines. Freshman third baseman
Noah Cyphert (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) added a double for the Wolverines, who out-hit Allegheny, 9-8.

Calvin Burns (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Wolverines. He allowed six hits while striking out three. Burns did not yield an earned run but took the setback. Sophomore
Tate Ostrowski (Essex, Mass./Covenant Christian) pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief while freshman
Austin Basham (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) struck out two men while pitching the eighth inning.
Grove City will open Presidents' Athletic Conference play March 20 at Bethany. The single conference game will start at 4 p.m. Grove City opens its home schedule the next day with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the Bison.
