GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Five Grove City College players will represent the United States in the 2017 Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) as part of Team Stars & Stripes, a 40-man squad of Division III players from around the country. Team Stars & Stripes will face an all-star team of players from CONADEIP, the premier collegiate American Football league in Mexico.
The game will be held Saturday at CETYS University in Tijuana. Kickoff will be 3 p.m. Eastern.
Senior defensive end
Jacob Armbrecht (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro), senior safety
Kyle Beyer (Perry, Ohio/Perry), senior wide receiver
Gabe Greco (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton), senior linebacker
Deion Minor (Sykesville, Md./Century) and senior linebacker/safety
Andrew Seifert (Kettering, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) will compete in Saturday's game.
Armbrecht led Grove City with 5.5 quarterback sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss this season. He ranked fourth in the Presidents' Athletic Conference in tackles for loss and earned Second Team All-PAC recognition. Armbrecht started each of his last three seasons and earned four letters in his collegiate career.
Beyer made 38 career starts at safety for Grove City, including 10 this season. He led Grove City with two interceptions and finished the season with 37 total tackles.
Greco caught 15 passes for 184 yards in 2017 as one of the Wolverines' starting slot receivers. He caught 37 passes in 2016. Greco saw time at quarterback as a freshman before moving to wide receiver. He earned four letters at Grove City.
Minor led Grove City with 63 tackles in 2016. This season, he posted 46 tackles and 1.5 sacks while starting all 10 games at inside linebacker.
Seifert started at strong side linebacker this year after starting at strong safety in his first three seasons. He posted 52 tackles, including 10 for loss. Seifert also had a career-high three sacks and one interception. Seifert earned Honorable Mention All-PAC following the 2017 season.
This is the eighth straight season that Grove City players have competed for Team Stars & Stripes.
