TMC tops Grove City in title tilt

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Grove City College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision Friday afternoon to top-seeded Thomas More in the championship round of the 2017 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at BB&T Bank Field.

Grove City (15-5) owned an 18-11 advantage in shots for the match. The Wolverines put 15 of those 18 shots on goal. Grove City also doubled up Thomas More in corner kicks, 6-3.

Thomas More broke through at 7:05 when Hannah Dargo scored the eventual game-winner. The Saints then added an insurance goal at 84:14 as Ashley Maples scored an unassisted goal.

In goal, senior Trishae Winters (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) stopped four shots for Grove City, which had won 10 straight matches prior to Friday. For Thomas More, goalkeeper Maddy Kim stopped 15 shots to preserve the shutout.

Friday's match marked the sixth straight year that Grove City and Thomas More met for the conference title.

Grove City will now await a possible invitation to the postseason.
