Box Score

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College football team opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Saturday afternoon with a 48-28 setback to visiting Saint Vincent on Homecoming at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Grove City accumulated 449 total yards of offense and also racked up 28 first downs. However, Saint Vincent scored two special teams touchdowns and also returned an interception for a touchdown.

Junior wide receiver Brett Pinson (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) caught six passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns for Grove City as two Wolverine quarterbacks combined for 300 yards. Sophomore Matt Pennypacker (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) completed 10 of 28 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns.

He came on in relief of sophomore starter Antonio Carroscia (Stow, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian), who went 8 of 14 for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Pennypacker also ran for a team-leading 76 yards on 12 attempts. Sophomore Andrew Schauer (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) ran for 62 yards on 15 carries.

Saint Vincent took a 7-0 lead six minutes into the game when Damon Black returned a blocked punt 28 yards for a touchdown. Grove City answered on its next possession, however, as Carroscia threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Pinson.

Saint Vincent pushed the lead to 14-7 with 2:17 left on D.J. Oceant-Kelly's 21-yard touchdown catch from Evan Shimensky. The Bearcat lead became 21-7 at the 1:15 mark after Dwayne Brown returned a deflected punt snap 35 yards for a touchdown. The snap hit one of Grove City's protectors and caromed directly to the rushing Brown.

Pinson's 35-yard touchdown grab from Pennypacker pulled the Wolverines to within 21-14 with 6:44 left in the half. However, Saint Vincent's Devin Anderson returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter, giving the Bearcats a 28-14 halftime lead.

Grove City scored twice in the fourth quarter as freshman running back Nick Scholle (South Park, Pa./South Park) scored on a one-yard touchdown run and Pennypacker threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Gabriel Moore (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Landmark Christian).

Senior linebacker Brandon Berringer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) paced the defense with eight tackles and a sack. Freshman cornerback Cobie Pratt (Vienna, Ohio/Mathews) recorded his first collegiate interception.

Grove City owned a 35:34-24:26 edge in time of possession.

Shimensky went 11 of 19 for 141 yards while Tyler Donahue completed 5 of 10 passes for 95 yards. Donahue ran for 73 yards on seven carries.

The Wolverines (0-3, 0-1) will visit Waynesburg next Saturday in conference play.
