FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team advanced to the second round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championship Tournament by earning a 3-1 win Saturday over Franciscan at Frostburg State University.
Grove City (16-5) will now face Frostburg State at noon Sunday in the tournament quarterfinals.
Sophomore midfielder
Ruby Mattson (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) scored twice for the Wolverines and senior forward
Lacy Harkrader (Mineral, Va./Louisa County) added an insurance goal.Â
Mattson gave Grove City a 1-0 lead at 5:06 when she scored after receiving a feed from senior forward
Katherine Kouzelos (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian).
Grove City then sealed the win with two goals in the second half. Mattson scored the eventual game-winner on an unassisted goal at 53:50. Harkrader capped Grove City's scoring at 77:11 when she scored on a rebound. Senior midfielder
Lindsay Hutton (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) assisted Harkrader's goal.
Franciscan broke through at 87:17 on a goal from Megan Luiso.
Grove City owned a 28-4 edge in shots, along with a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper
Trishae Winters (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) made one save, earning her 33rd career victory.
The winner of Sunday's match between Grove City and Frostburg State will advance to next weekend's ECAC semifinals at a site and time to be determined.Â
