Grove City blanks Frostburg in ECAC 2nd round

FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team matched the program record for wins in a season Sunday afternoon by pulling out a 1-0 victory at Frostburg State in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Tournament.

Grove City is now 17-5 overall. The 17 wins match the program mark set in 2016, when the Wolverines finished 17-6. Sunday's win propels Grove City into next weekend's ECAC semifinals in Springfield, Mass. The time of the match and Grove City's opponent next Saturday are to be determined.

Grove City broke through at 31:34 when senior midfielder Lindsay Hutton (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) headed in her team-best 11th goal of the season. It is Hutton's seventh game-winning goal of the season. Hutton headed in a corner kick from senior defender Megan Van Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), who tallied her team-leading seventh assist of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Trishae Winters (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) stopped seven shots to earn the shutout victory. It is her 34th career victory, which ties Grove City's program record. Grove City now has seven shutouts this season.

The Wolverines also advanced to the ECAC semifinals in 2016. This is the second season that the ECAC has utilized a two-weekend tournament. This year's tournament field featured 15 teams.
