In spring 2025, he guided Grove City to a 7-1 record in Presidents' Athletic Conference play, along with a trip to the conference tournament finals. Overall, Grove City finished 11-5.

Frey came to the College after spending 2024 as the head men's and women's tennis coach at Westminster College. Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Frey worked as assistant coach for the Grove City High School girls tennis program from 2018 to 2023. In 2023, he helped the Eagles advance to the District 10 Class AA semifinals in the district team tournament.

Frey served as lead pastor at Fellowship Community Church in Grove City from 2012 to 2022. He served as an area director for Cru in Grove City from 1997-2012 after six years as a Cru senior staffer in State College, Pa.

In 2005, Frey founded Cru's Ocean City (Md.) Summer Mission, a 10-week program that places a high emphasis on student ownership and leadership development. He recruited regionally and nationally for improved student involvement and created leadership development programming and curriculum for both staff and student participants.

Frey graduated from Wright State University in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in fine arts.
