GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its seventh consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday night by finishing the four-day conference championships at James E. Longnecker Pool with 1,087 team points. The Wolverines accumulated a 452-point margin over runner-up Washington & Jefferson.
Three victories highlighted Saturday night's final session. Grove City capped the meet by winning the 400 free relay in a time of 3 minutes, 0.82 seconds as junior
Caleb Einolf (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown), junior
Nathan Beukema (Kensington, Md./Homeschooled), sophomore
Sam Funches (Tacoma, Wash./Covenant) and sophomore
Owen Hancock (Brunswick, Ohio/Westside Christian) combined for the win.
That time sets a pool and championships record. The time also surpasses the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard.
Hancock also won the 200 butterfly in a school- and conference-record time of 1:51.89. Meanwhile, junior
Will Sterrett (Wilmington, N.C./Hoggard) prevailed in the 200 backstroke in 1:52.00.
Einolf placed second in the 100 free with a time of 44.62 seconds. He recorded a time of 44.59 in the preliminaries, which surpassed the provisional qualifying standard.Â
Junior
Logan Myers (Middleburg, Fla./Homeschooled) earned second in the 200 butterfly (1:55.48) while sophomore
C.J. Mayhew (Gaithersburg, Md./Homeschooled) placed second in the 1650 with a time of 16:51.51. Junior
Sam Thayer (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) secured third in the 1650 (17:00.12) while Beukema took third in the 100 free with a time of 45.38 seconds.
Sophomore
Paul Braun (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) earned third in the 200 backstroke (1:57.90) while classmate
Bryce Pope (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Valley Classical) finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.48). Fellow sophomore
Josh Remlinger (Granville, Ohio/Granville) finished third in the 200 butterfly (1:58.19).Â
Funches added a fourth-place finish in the 100 free (46.10) while sophomore
Andrew Buxbaum (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) took fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.46). Sophomore
Peter Hasse (East Earl, Pa./Homeschooled) finished fourth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.46.Â
Junior
Emmett Wilson (Laconia, N.H./Homeschooled) finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.88). Freshman
Ryan Turner (Fombell, Pa./Riverside) captured fifth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.28 seconds. Sophomore
Charlie Cratty posted sixth-place finishes in both the 200 backstroke (2:01.36) and 200 butterfly (2:03.69).
The Wolverines have now won 25 Presidents' Athletic Conference titles since joining the league prior to the 1984-85 season. Grove City has 33 total conference titles, which includes eight Penn-Ohio titles in the 1950s and 1960s.
