MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Grove City College softball team split a pair of games Thursday at the Space Coast Games during their week-long Spring Break trip. Grove City opened the day with a 5-0 win over Alma at Pride Stadium. Rose-Hulman edged Grove City in the nightcap, 5-3.
Junior pitcher
Brooke Brodie (Mogadore, Ohio/Mogadore) threw six shutout innings against Alma to earn the pitching victory. The left-hander allowed only two hits and two walks in her start. Freshman pitcher
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) closed out the shutout win with two strikeouts in a scoreless seventh inning.
Grove City took a 2-0 lead in the third inning as sophomore center fielder
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) scored on a one-out error and senior catcher
Lauren Harris (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) later scored on Brodie's two-out triple.
Meadors broke open the game with a three-run double in the fifth as her two-out hit drove in Brodie, sophomore pinch runner
Rylie Eaton (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and junior right fielder
Annika Rinehart (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry).
Brodie also singled and walked in her three plate appearances. Rinehart went 2 for 2 with a double.
Grove City (3-5) led 2-0 after four innings in the nightcap. Anthony scored on Meadors' first inning ground out. In the fourth, Rinehart singled in junior
Maci Linhart (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana). However, Rose-Hulman surged ahead with four runs in the top of the fifth.
Grove City cut the lead to 4-3 in the sixth when junior pinch runner
Ella Krarup (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) scored on an error.
Freshman third baseman
Emma Covert (Chicora, Pa./Moniteau) doubled and singled for Grove City. Meadors pitched five innings and yielded four runs. She struck out three and took the setback. Freshman
Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) pitched the final two innings in relief and allowed one run.
The Wolverines close their 10-game trip Friday with games against Houghton and Rose-Hulman. The Wolverines face Houghton at 10 a.m., followed by a 12:30 p.m. start with Rose-Hulman.
