WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Waynesburg, raising the Wolverines' conference record to 5-3. Grove City rolled to a 12-1, five-inning win in Game One. The Wolverines then picked up a 5-2 decision in the nightcap.
Grove City scored six runs in each of the first two innings in Game One to assert early control. The Wolverines belted six hits in the top of the first inning, highlighted a run-scoring triple from freshman left fielder
Lauren McNeil (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian).
McNeil then highlighted Grove City's second inning by roping a three-run double that scored junior shortstop
Lexi Buck (Akron, Ohio/Lake Center Christian), freshman third baseman
Maralee Caldana (Milesburg, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) and senior right fielder
Hannah Dietz (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton).

Emily Smyth (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) went 3 for 3 with two runs scored while sophomore DP
Janessa Dawson (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley) tripled and singled. Senior first baseman
Haley Dietz (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and
Hannah Dietz both scored twice. All nine offensive starters scored at least once for Grove City (10-12 overall).
Senior pitcher
Ashley Cornelius (Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman) struck out six batters in five innings to earn the win. She yielded five singles and one earned run.Â
Smyth's solo homer in the first inning gave Grove City an early 1-0 lead in the nightcap. Waynesburg tied the game on a groundout in the bottom of the first.
Hannah Dietz gave Grove City the lead for good in the third when she launched a three-run homer. Dietz extended her Grove City career record by hitting her 13th career round-tripper. She has four homers this season. Dawson and freshman catcher
Lauren Harris (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) scored ahead of Dietz on the home run.Â
Hannah Dietz added a double. She and Smyth both went 2 for 4.Â
In the fourth inning, junior center fielder
Morgan Prouty (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) singled in Buck, extending the lead to 5-1.
Dawson fired a complete game in the circle to earn the pitching win. She struck out six and walked one in seven innings.Â
Grove City will host Franciscan at 1 p.m. Saturday in a conference doubleheader at College Field.
