Grove City falls on road

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College softball team closed its non-conference schedule Monday afternoon by dropping a doubleheader at fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference member Bethany. Bethany won the opener, 5-0, then took the second game 4-1. The games do not count in the conference standings.

Grove City (5-9) broke through in Game Two when junior shortstop Lexi Buck (Akron, Ohio/Lake Center Christian) singled in senior first baseman Haley Dietz (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) in the top of the fourth.

Sophomore pitcher Janessa Dawson (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley) doubled in the nightcap while junior second baseman Cara Polese (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest) and freshman DP Erin Mulholland (Malvern, Pa./Delaware County Christian) each singled.

Dawson allowed three earned runs in five innings. She struck out two and walked one. Freshman Kaitlyn Constantino (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief..

Bethany held Grove City to one hit in the opener, a single by senior pitcher Ashley Cornelius (Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman). Cornelius struck out seven and allowed two earned runs in six innings for the Wolverines.

The conference schedule will begin Thursday afternoon as the Wolverines visit Saint Vincent. Inclement weather earlier in March canceled Grove City's home non-conference doubleheader with Saint Vincent.
